Air Hostess Arrested in Kerala for Alleged Gold Smuggling

Kannur, Kerala: An air hostess has been arrested for allegedly smuggling nearly a kilogram of gold from Muscat to Kannur. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted Surabhi Khatun, a cabin crew member from Kolkata, upon her arrival at Kannur International Airport on May 28th.

Based on intelligence, DRI officials conducted a personal search and recovered 960 grams of gold concealed in her rectum. This marks the first instance in India where an airline crew member has been apprehended for smuggling gold using this method, according to a DRI source.

Following interrogation and formalities, Khatun was remanded to a women’s prison in Kannur for 14 days. An investigation is underway, with evidence suggesting she may have smuggled gold previously. Authorities are also looking into the involvement of a Kerala-based smuggling ring.

Officials have contacted the airline for comment, but no response has been received yet.
