Airtel and Reliance Jio Might Start Charging for 5G, No More Unlimited Data

5G services started in India in October 2022 and two big telecom companies, Reliance Jio and Airtel, were the first ones to offer 5G to their customers. They have a whopping 125 million 5G subscribers combined! They’ve been giving unlimited 5G data with some plans, all for the same price as their 4G plans. But things might change soon.

Changes Coming Up

According to some experts, Reliance Jio and Airtel might stop offering unlimited 5G data and start charging a bit more for 5G compared to 4G. This change is expected to happen in the second half of 2024.

Why are they doing this?

Well, they want to make more money and grow their revenue.

For almost a year now, Jio and Airtel have been giving 5G at the same price as 4G, along with unlimited data, to convince their existing customers to upgrade to 5G. But as more and more people start using 5G, the companies want to make sure they make enough money. By the end of 2024, it’s estimated that there will be more than 200 million 5G users in India!

What to Expect

So, here’s what might happen. The experts think that Reliance Jio and Airtel will increase the prices of their 5G plans by 5-10 percent compared to the 4G plans. They want to make more profit and cover the costs of investing in 5G and getting new customers. But don’t worry, they might also include 30-40 percent more data in these new 5G bundles to encourage people to use it more. Plus, since another big telecom company, Vodafone Idea (Vi), hasn’t started 5G yet, Jio and Airtel can try to get more customers and become even more popular.

So, you might witness some changes in the world of 5G! It might cost a bit more, but you might also get more data to use. Let’s see what happens!
