Chandigarh University Student Pawan Sehrawat Receives Arjuna Award from President

New Delhi, Jan 10, 2024: Pawan Kumar Sehrawat, a student at Chandigarh University (CU) and the captain of the Indian Kabaddi team, was recently honored with the prestigious Arjuna Award. This award is considered the second-highest athletic honor in India. Pawan received the award on Tuesday from President Droupadi Murmu for his outstanding contribution to Indian Kabaddi.

A Glittering Ceremony

The award ceremony took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan and was attended by many dignitaries. Pawan, under whose captainship the Indian Kabaddi team won the Gold medal in the Asian Games 2023 after eight years, was recognized for his remarkable achievements.

Gratitude towards Chandigarh University

Pawan expressed his gratitude towards Chandigarh University for its support in helping him pursue excellence in Kabaddi. He mentioned that the university has always encouraged students to participate in sports, allowing them to follow their dreams. Pawan also acknowledged the facilities and guidance provided by Chandigarh University, which played a significant role in his performance in the Asian Games 2023.

Pride and Congratulations

Chandigarh University Chancellor, Satnam Singh Sandhu, congratulated Pawan Kumar on receiving the Arjuna Award. He stated that Pawan has not only made the university proud but has also brought laurels to India at the international level. Under Pawan’s leadership, India has won Gold medals at various prestigious events, including the Asian Games 2023, South Asian Games 2019, and Asian Kabaddi Championship 2023.

Commitment to Sports

Chandigarh University is dedicated to promoting the next generation of sportspersons for the nation. In the last Asian Games, the university had the highest number of players from any university, with 22 players participating in different sports. Out of these, 10 players won medals for India. This achievement fills the university with great pride.

Pawan Kumar Sehrawat, originally from Delhi, is currently pursuing his MA in English at Chandigarh University. He is a raider and plays for the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) team Telugu Titans. Pawan made history by becoming the most expensive player in PKL history, being bought by Telugu Titans for a whopping Rs 2.60 Crore.
