Defence Ministry Inks Contract with BEL for Shakti Electronic Warfare Systems

New Delhi, February 14, 2024: The Ministry of Defence on Tuesday finalized a significant contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), headquartered in Hyderabad, for the procurement of 11 Shakti Electronic Warfare Systems. Signed in New Delhi, this contract, valued at Rs. 2269.54 Cr, falls under the Buy (Indian- IDDM) category.

The Shakti EW System, conceptualized, designed, and manufactured indigenously, marks a significant stride in India’s defense capabilities. Designed to operate effectively in dense electromagnetic environments, the system boasts advanced features capable of accurately intercepting electronic emissions and implementing countermeasures.

Primarily destined for deployment aboard capital warships of the Indian Navy, the acquisition of the Shakti EW System underscores the nation’s commitment to bolstering its maritime security apparatus.

In addition to enhancing defense capabilities, this project is poised to stimulate economic growth, with an estimated employment generation of two and a half lakh man-days over a four-year period. Over 155 industry partners, including Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), are set to participate, aligning with the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
