Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Arrested by ED in Excise Policy Case

New Delhi, March 21, 2024: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as part of their investigation into a money laundering case, confirmed AAP leader and Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj in a tweet.

Kejriwal was taken into custody from his official residence shortly after the Delhi High Court declined to intervene in his request for protection from the ED in the excise policy case.

Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi mentioned that Arvind Kejriwal will not be seeking an urgent hearing for protection in the Supreme Court tonight. In response to this, Delhi Minister Atishi expressed her belief that this arrest is clearly part of a conspiracy.

Atishi stated, “This is very clearly a conspiracy. In the past two years, the ED and CBI have not been able to find any proceeds of crime. The Delhi High Court had already issued a notice to the ED today. So, why the need for deploying thousands of police personnel and paramilitary forces here? PM Modi seems to want Kejriwal arrested before the Lok Sabha polls.”

Several AAP leaders also claimed that this arrest was made to prevent the chief minister from appealing to the Supreme Court after the high court’s decision not to grant him interim relief from coercive action.
