Farida Jalal Defends Sharmin Segal Against Heeramandi Trolling

Veteran actress Farida Jalal, who recently starred alongside Sharmin Segal in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” spoke out against the online trolling Segal has faced for her performance.

In an interview with India Today, Jalal expressed her disapproval of the negativity directed at her co-star. “I am not happy about this,” she stated. “People should be kind.” Jalal defended Segal’s portrayal, explaining, “I don’t think her character needed to be very boisterous and loud. That was not her role.”

She elaborated, “Perhaps, what you thought you would see her character doing, you didn’t. But that’s okay. Why should one be rude to her? She is a poet, and she falls in love with Taj and that’s it.”

Segal herself previously addressed the online criticism in an interview with Pinkvilla. She acknowledged the importance of constructive criticism but emphasized the need to focus on the positive feedback as well. “My DMs are filled with a lot of love,” she said. “Negativity tends to be spoken about a lot more in public because people want to talk about negative things, but there is a lot of positivity also like I need to embrace that as well.”

“Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar” tells the story of Mallikajaan (Manisha Koirala) and the challenges she faces when Fareedan (Sonakshi Sinha), her rival’s daughter, returns. The series boasts an ensemble cast featuring Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Fardeen Khan, Shekhar Suman, Adhyayan Suman, and Taha Shah.
