Florida Man Arrested for Allegedly Decapitating Recently Adopted Dog

Pinellas County, Florida – A disturbing case of animal cruelty has come to light in Florida after a 66-year-old man was arrested for allegedly decapitating a dog he adopted just one day prior.

Grim Discovery at Park

On May 14th, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a dead dog wrapped in plastic found at Fort Desoto Park. Upon investigation, officers discovered the headless body of a bulldog mix floating in a mangrove swamp.

Microchip Leads to Arrest

A microchip scan revealed the dog to be a 4-year-old named Dexter, recently adopted from Pinellas County Animal Services by Domingo Rodriguez.

Conflicting Statements and Charges

When questioned, Mr. Rodriguez initially claimed Dexter had run away the night he was adopted. However, inconsistencies in his statements, including admitting to being at the park the following day, led to his arrest on May 15th. He has been charged with felony animal cruelty and disposal of dead animals.

Animal Shelter Expresses Shock and Encourages Reporting

Pinellas County Animal Services, deeply affected by the incident, released a statement on Facebook expressing shock and urging the public to report suspected animal abuse. They emphasized the thoroughness of their adoption screening process and encouraged anyone witnessing animal cruelty to contact their office.

Investigation Continues

Mr. Rodriguez was released on bond. The investigation into Dexter’s death remains ongoing.
