From Boardroom to Ballgown: Mona Patel Makes Waves at Met Gala

Entrepreneur and philanthropist Mona Patel became a surprise star at the 2024 Met Gala, dazzling attendees with her stunning gown and commitment to social good.

A Fashionable Debut

Styled by celebrity stylist Law Roach, Patel embraced the Gala’s “The Garden of Time” theme with a flowing nude gown designed by Iris Van Herpen’s team in India. The dress itself was a captivating work of art, featuring a butterfly-shaped corset and a trailing train adorned with mechanized butterflies that fluttered with her every step. Patel’s creativity further shone through as she collaborated with kinetic motion artist Casey Curran to design the 3D butterflies herself.

More Than Just Met Gala Glamour

But Patel’s impact extends far beyond the red carpet. Born in Vadodara, Gujarat, she has since carved a successful path in the business world. After pursuing higher education at Rutgers University in New Jersey, she returned to India to complete her undergraduate studies. By the age of 22, she had relocated to Dallas, Texas, where she went on to establish eight companies across diverse sectors including healthcare, technology, and real estate. Some of her ventures include the health-tech startup radXai, CareFirst Imaging, and the community group Haute Mindset.

A Passion for Education and Empowerment

Patel’s impressive educational background, which includes prestigious institutions like Harvard Business School, Stanford Graduate School of Business, and MIT Sloan School of Management (as per her Instagram), further highlights her dedication to excellence. This dedication extends beyond business ventures, as Patel is a strong advocate for gender equality. She founded the non-profit organization, Couture for Cause, which focuses on empowering women and girls worldwide by providing access to education and healthcare resources. The organization has already positively impacted the lives of over 4,000 girls. In recognition of her achievements, Patel was included in Forbes’ “The Next 1000” list in 2021.

Mona Patel’s Met Gala appearance may have surprised some, but it serves as a powerful reminder that success can be multifaceted. She is a role model for aspiring entrepreneurs and a champion for social change, proving that style and substance can go hand-in-hand.
