Hetmyer Fined for Wicket-Smashing Tantrum in Qualifier 2 Loss

Rajasthan Royals batsman Shimron Hetmyer was fined 10% of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during their Qualifier 2 defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday.

Hetmyer Admits Level 1 Offense

The BCCI confirmed that Hetmyer admitted to a Level 1 offense, following a sanction imposed by match referee Javagal Srinath. Level 1 breaches, as per the Code of Conduct, result in a final and binding decision by the match referee.

Frustration Boils Over After Dismissal

Details surrounding the specific breach remain undisclosed by the BCCI, but reports suggest it stemmed from dissent after his dismissal. Hetmyer, considered a crucial batsman for RR’s chase, was dismissed cheaply by left-arm spinner Abhishek Sharma in the 14th over. Frustrated by his dismissal (4 runs off 10 balls), Hetmyer attempted to damage the wickets with his bat before walking back to the pavilion.

RR’s Chase Falters

Hetmyer’s dismissal proved pivotal as RR’s chase fell short by 36 runs. Despite a valiant effort by Dhruv Jurel (56 not out), RR were restricted to 139/7, falling well short of SRH’s 175/9 set earlier.

Spinners Orchestrate SRH Victory

Earlier, SRH rode on Heinrich Klaasen’s blistering 50 (34 balls) alongside contributions from Travis Head (34) and Rahul Tripathi (37) to post a competitive total. SRH spinners then took center stage, with Shahbaz Ahmed (3/23) and Abhishek Sharma (2/24) claiming five wickets between them to dismantle the RR batting order.

Brief Scores:

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad: 175/9 (20 overs) – Heinrich Klaasen 50, Trent Boult 3/45, Avesh Khan 3/27
  • Rajasthan Royals: 139/7 (20 overs) – Dhruv Jurel 56*, Yashasvi Jaiswal 42, Shahbaz Ahmed 3/23, Abhishek Sharma 2/24
