IISF 2023 Presents Vigyanika: The Science Literature Festival

Discover India’s Scientific Prowess at Vigyanika

New Delhi, Jan 15, 2024: The India International Science Festival (IISF) 2023 presents Vigyanika, a science literature festival. The main goal of this festival is to share India’s scientific knowledge and find better ways to communicate about science and technology.

It will take place at the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB) – Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) campus in Faridabad, Haryana, on January 18th and 19th, 2024.

The coordinating organizations for this event are CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (NIScPR), National Innovation Foundation-India (NIF), and Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA).

Sessions and Discussions

On January 18th, there will be a scientific session called “Science and Technology Public Outreach in India.” This session will be chaired by Prof B N Jagatap from IIT Bombay. Experts like Dr. Dinakar M. Salunke, Prof KC Bansal, and Prof (Dr) Uma Kumar will share their knowledge and insights.

Another interesting discussion will focus on “Apni Bhasha Apna Vigyan: Strengthening Sci Comm in Indian Languages.” Chamu Krishna Shastry, Chairman of Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti, will lead this session. Science communicators who work in Hindi, Punjabi, Manipuri, Tamil, Assamese, and Malayalam will share their thoughts and experiences.

If you’re interested in popular science writing, there will be a workshop just for you! Shri Hasan Jawaid Khan and Dr HS Sudhira, both experienced science communicators, will guide you through the world of science writing. There will also be a scientific session on “Science Communication in India: Current Trends, Opportunities, and Challenges” where selected participants will present their papers. Dr PK Joshi from Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) will be in charge of this session.

Fun Cultural Activities

Science and art will come together in a cultural program that includes a science drama. Prepare to be entertained and amazed!

On January 19th, there will be a panel discussion on “Creative Science Communication through Films, Podcasts & Social Media – Amplifying the Reach.” If you love drawing and quizzes, there will also be a competition just for school students.

Another panel discussion will focus on the “Challenges in Traditional Knowledge Research & Communication.” Prof Vasant Shinde, a former Vice-Chancellor of Deccan College, will lead this session. And if you enjoy poetry, don’t miss the Vigyan Kavi Sammelan, chaired by Dr Madhu Pant, a former Director of National Bal Bhawan.

Special Sessions and Valedictory

In the evening, there will be a special session on “Science Communication for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” followed by the valedictory session. We are honored to have internationally-acclaimed author Mr. Marc Prensky and Dr Sharmila Binti Md. Salleh, Chief Executive Officer at Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM), attending this session.

The coordinators of Vigyanika 2023 are Dr Paramananda Barman, Dr Monika Jaggi, Dr Nitin Maurya, Rahul Prakash, Dr Madhav Govind, and Dr Neel Sarovar Bhavesh. They are working hard to make this event a success!

Science Media Communication Cell (SMCC)

The Science Media Communication Cell (SMCC) at CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication & Policy Research (NIScPR) is in charge of promoting the India International Science Festival (IISF) 2023. Their main goal is to share India’s research and scientific achievements with the public through various media platforms.
