IMD Must Embrace Cutting-Edge Technology, says VP Dhankhar

New Delhi, Jan 16, 2024: Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday called upon corporate leaders to support research and development in IMD, especially when it comes to cutting-edge technology. These technologies can help us reduce and manage disasters better, he said.

IMD: Protecting India’s National Interest

IMD is like a safety net for our country. It helps us predict the weather accurately, which is super important. The Vice-President even joked that he wishes IMD could predict the weather in the Parliament! IMD’s expertise is not only recognized in India but also by our neighboring countries like Bangladesh and Myanmar. They rely on IMD’s forecasts, especially during cyclones.

IMD’s Contributions to Our Nation

IMD plays a big role in our daily lives. From helping farmers increase their incomes to supporting COVID management and even organizing the G20 Summit, IMD is involved in many important things. It also works closely with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to become one of the best meteorological departments in the world.

During the event, the Vice-President released the theme song of IMD and launched some cool initiatives. These include the Decision Support System, Panchayat MausamSeva, National Framework of Climate Services, and the IMD Mobile App. These initiatives will help IMD serve our nation better.
