Karan Johar Disappointed by Comedian’s Mimicry on TV Show

Karan Johar, the director behind the recent film “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” expressed disappointment on social media over a comedian’s portrayal of him on a television show.

Johar, without revealing the comedian or show’s name, stated on his Instagram stories that he witnessed a “poor taste” mimicry while watching television with his mother. He expressed sadness at the perceived lack of respect from within the industry, especially after his 25 years in the business.

Social media sleuths, particularly on Reddit, decoded Johar’s post, speculating it targeted comedian Kettan Singh’s impersonation in the Sony TV show “Madness Machayenge.” The promo for the show featured Singh mimicking Johar and his popular talk show “Koffee With Karan” under the name “Toffee with Churan.”

Following Johar’s criticism, Kettan Singh issued an apology, clarifying his admiration for Johar’s work and denying any intention to cause offense. Singh, a fan of Johar’s films and talk show, stressed his goal was purely to entertain the audience.

Filmmaker Ektaa Kapoor, a close friend of Johar, voiced her support by re-sharing Johar’s statement on her Instagram stories. Kapoor criticized the trend of “ugly humor” at award shows and on television, questioning why celebrities are expected to attend such events. Johar reposted Kapoor’s message, expressing his appreciation.

Karan Johar recently returned to directing with “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” and is now venturing into production with upcoming projects featuring Janhvi Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and Kartik Aaryan.
