Law Enforcement Gets a Tech Boost: Vimarsh 2023 Hackathon Showcases Innovative Solutions

New Delhi, February 25, 2024: The Telecom Centres of Excellence (TCoE) India, in collaboration with the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), successfully concluded the Vimarsh 2023 5G Hackathon. This national event aimed to address critical challenges faced by law enforcement agencies and foster innovation in the field through the power of 5G technology.

The third and final phase of the hackathon saw 22 out of 23 participating startups and institutes present their Use Case Proof of Concepts (PoCs) at the DoT-funded IIT Madras 5G Testbed on February 21st and 22nd, 2024. These demonstrations were evaluated by a distinguished jury comprising experts from prestigious institutions like National Forensic Sciences University, Central Detective Training Institute, IITs, Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre, and cyber security associations.

The showcased solutions leveraged 5G’s capabilities to address diverse needs within law enforcement. Highlights included:

  • Drone-based surveillance for enhanced safety and security.
  • AI-assisted FIR filing for streamlined reporting processes.
  • Geofencing solutions for efficient crime scene investigations.
  • AR-based training through realistic crime scene recreations.
  • AI-powered data analytics and processing apps for predictive policing.
