Manipur Students Shine in Class 10 Exams Despite Challenges

Imphal, Manipur – Over 93% of students in Manipur passed the Class 10 exam conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM), marking a significant achievement despite a difficult academic year overshadowed by ethnic tensions. This year’s pass percentage is the highest in the last decade, surpassing 76% in 2022 and 82.82% in 2023.

Officials attribute the high pass rate partly to the shift from a marks-based system to a grading system implemented this year. This change aimed to reduce stress and competition among students impacted by the ongoing ethnic violence. Many students continue to reside in relief camps across the state.

Under the new system, students receive grades ranging from A1 to E2, with no total marks awarded. A total of 37,547 students, nearly equally divided between boys (18,995) and girls (18,552), participated in the exams held between March 15 and April 3.

This remarkable accomplishment amidst adversity highlights the resilience of Manipur’s students and educators.
