Moto G64 5G: A Budget Phone with Familiar Feel and New Processor

May 1, 2024: Motorola’s latest budget offering, the Moto G64 5G, boasts some familiar design elements and a new processor. Here’s a quick look after a few days of use:

Looks Like Déjà Vu?

At first glance, the G64 5G closely resembles its predecessor, the G54 5G. The glossy plastic build, rear camera module layout, and display size (6.5-inch IPS LCD) are nearly identical. Even the color options (except for Black) are the same. A new addition is the Gorilla Glass protection for the display (version unspecified).

Camera System: Usable Options

The camera setup is again familiar: a 50MP primary sensor with OIS and an 8MP ultrawide sensor with macro capability. Early impressions suggest decent photo quality in daylight conditions. The 16MP selfie camera rounds out the package. Thankfully, Motorola avoids unnecessary macro/depth sensors.

Internal Upgrades

While the exterior may not scream “new,” the inside holds some changes. The Moto G64 5G is the first phone to sport the MediaTek Dimensity 7025 SoC, supposedly faster than the 7020 found in the G54. Paired with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, the phone delivered smooth performance during the initial testing period. A full review will explore performance in more detail.

Software: Familiar Mix

The phone runs Android 14-based My UX with one major Android update and 3 years of security updates promised. Motorola’s software includes some bloatware alongside its own features.

Long-Lasting Battery

The 6,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging seems promising for extended use. More testing is needed to confirm real-world battery life.

Should You Buy It?

Priced starting at Rs. 14,999, the Moto G64 5G offers good value for money. While upgrades over the G54 are minimal (display protection, processor), the price makes it an attractive option. Stay tuned for the full review for a definitive recommendation!
