Rahul Gandhi Dismisses Exit Polls as Fantasy Poll by PM Modi

A day after most exit polls predicted a massive win for the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi dismissed the projections as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “fantasy poll.”

In an interview with news agency ANI, Gandhi expressed confidence in the INDIA Opposition bloc’s performance, asserting they would secure 295 out of the 543 Lok Sabha seats. Drawing a parallel to a popular song by the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, he stated, “Have you heard Sidhu Moose Wala’s song 295? 295.”

Exit polls have largely forecast a stunning victory for the BJP, with some suggesting that the BJP-led NDA might surpass the 400-seat mark—a goal encapsulated in the BJP’s slogan ‘ab ki baar 400 par.’ However, it is important to note that exit polls do not always accurately predict final results.

Following a meeting of INDIA bloc leaders after the seventh phase of polling, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge also projected a win exceeding 295 seats for the bloc, based on what he termed a “people’s survey.”

Samajwadi Party chief and INDIA bloc leader Akhilesh Yadav voiced skepticism regarding the exit polls. In a social media post, he implied that the predictions were manipulated to benefit BJP supporters financially. “Understand the chronology of exit polls. The Opposition had earlier announced that the media will predict that the BJP is crossing 300 so that there is scope for scam,” Yadav wrote. He urged INDIA bloc workers to be vigilant with Electronic Voting Machines as counting day approaches.

In contrast, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri expressed confidence in the BJP’s prospects, predicting 350 seats for the party and a total nearing 400 for the NDA. He dismissed Kharge’s prediction as speculative, calling it “the crux of a drawing room conversation.”

Puri also commented on the rising stock markets, suggesting they reflect positive expectations from the actual poll results rather than exit polls. “Stock markets don’t react to exit polls, they react to actual poll results,” he noted, adding that Prime Minister Modi’s governance has been positively received.

As the country awaits the final results, set to be announced less than 48 hours from now, the stage is set for a highly anticipated conclusion to the electoral process.
