Top Indian Drivers to Showcase Skills in JK Tyre Drift Challenge on October 16

Greater Noida, Oct 13. Around 25 skilled drivers are expected to participate in the JK Tyre Drift Challenge on October 16 at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) in Greater Noida.

This event will feature a grid of 25 powerful rear-wheel drive cars driven by some of India’s most efficient drivers. The challenge will take place on specially-designed track layouts that will push the limits of both the drivers and their machines.

The drivers will be judged by an international panel of drifting experts, including Alistair Woodham from India, who was a former member of the Drift Commission of FIA, Cristiani Nanami Lazaro from Brazil, and Tanakorn Lertyaovarit from Thailand.

“The introduction of the JK Tyre Drift Challenge is a significant moment in Indian motorsport history,” said Sanjay Sharma, Head-Motorsport, JK Tyre.

“Drifting has been happening in India in isolated pockets, but with this competition, in collaboration with FMSCI, we aim to establish standardized drifting norms in India and bring it up to global standards. This challenge will not only provide a platform for talented Indian drivers to shine but also thrill motorsport enthusiasts who are seeking a new experience.”

Drifting is a motorsport discipline that emphasizes skill, precision, and car control rather than pure speed. It involves drivers sliding their cars and using oversteer to maneuver sideways through corners.

In addition to the Drift Challenge, the BIC will also host the JK Tyre Formula Imperial and Indian Karting Race.

The event, organized by the Imperial Society of Innovation Engineers (ISIEINDIA), is an Industry-Academia initiative that allows engineering students from across India to showcase their innovative solutions for sustainable mobility.

Over 2,000 students are expected to participate in various rounds from October 12 to 16, culminating in a 12-lap endurance final at the BIC to determine the winners.
