UP CM Yogi Performs ‘Kanya Poojan’ at Gorakhnath Temple

Gorakhpur, Oct 23. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath performed Kanya Poojan at the Gorakhnath Temple on Monday.

This day, known as Maha Navami, is the ninth day of Navratri and is dedicated to the worship of Maa Siddhidatri by devotees of Maa Durga.

According to Hindu mythology, Maa Durga defeated the buffalo demon Mahishasura on this day. It is believed that Maa Siddhidatri removes ignorance from her devotees and grants them knowledge. She also governs and provides energy to the planet Ketu.

On Navami, devotees engage in various rituals. Many perform Kanjak or Kanya Poojan, where young and unmarried girls who have not yet reached puberty are worshipped as Durga in households. These girls are invited into homes, their feet are washed, and they are offered prasad.

Some devotees also take baths in holy rivers and perform Sandhi Puja, offering 108 flowers and bilva leaves to Goddess Durga.

Navami is followed by Dussehra, which symbolizes the triumph of good over evil.
